Villagers in Thorney Toll are celebrating after it was confirmed that new safety signage would be installed on a busy road in the region.

Locals previously had their calls denied by the Highways Agency, but the group has now been ordered by the government to fit a sign in the next year, reports Peterborough Today.

Speaking to the news provider, Stephen Barclay, MP for North Cambridgeshire, said: "The news follows a number of meetings and letters between myself, the Highways Agency and the roads minister and is excellent news for the residents of Thorney Toll."

Mr Barclay explained that residents can anticipate a significant improvement to road safety.

New health and safety measures have also been introduced in other areas of the country, with the Citizen reporting that new signs will be installed near Gloucester city centre.

The decision was made following a report by Gloucestershire County Council, which found that shoppers in the area were in danger of being hit by vehicles.ADNFCR-2754-ID-801340438-ADNFCR
