Business owners on a Wishaw street have criticised council bosses, as they believe a lack of communication will cost them £55,000.

Firms have claimed that they were notified of the planned work late, meaning that they could not make alternative arrangements or install warning signs to inform customers of the situation, reports the Wishaw Press.

Alex Simpson, owner of the Glass Man, told the newspaper: "We got their letter on Thursday afternoon, which didn't give us enough time to make alternative arrangements or make signs so our customers knew what was happening."

Mr Simpson continued by saying that council bosses did not ask businesses about their needs.

Recently, the government announced alterations to health and safety laws in the UK.

It confirmed that a challenge panel will be established from 1st January, meaning that businesses can have the decisions of health and safety inspectors overturned if they are proven to be erroneous.ADNFCR-2754-ID-801228021-ADNFCR
