Offwell road has 'too many signs'

Devon County Council has confessed that too many warning signs have been installed on Offwell's Featherbed Lane.

A significant number of signs have been erected along the road, notifying motorists of potential skid risks as renovation work is being carried out, though one resident has suggested to the Midweek Herald that the signs are needless.

Seventy-five-year-old Mike Bolwell told the news provider: "The problem is there are too many signs, which you haven't got time to read and it makes you take your eyes off the road, which causes accidents.”

Mr Bolwell argued that health and safety is overdone, and that if something goes wrong, there must be a law to "make things go right".

Road signs have also made the news in Bedfordshire on Sunday, which reported that Bedford borough mayor Dave Hodgson's campaign has led to the removal of 100 unnecessary signs, railings and bollards.  ADNFCR-2754-ID-800624745-ADNFCR
