The 2012 "Be Aware Kids" Child Safety on Farms calendar has been launched in Northern Ireland, reinforcing the importance of efficient safety signage on farms.

Since its inception by the Health and Safety Executive for Northern Ireland (HSENI) in 2004, the calendar has acted as an awareness tool to highlight the dangers that children face when taking part in farming activities, reports Farming Life.

George Lucas, chairman of the HSENI, told the news provider: "HSENI will be distributing 35,000 calendars through rural primary schools across Northern Ireland. I would urge all farm families to put their copy up on their kitchen wall and heed its very important messages."

Mr Lucas also expressed his pleasure at seeing such a high level of interest in the scheme.

His comments come after the Linlithgow Gazette revealed that a schoolgirl has been praised after underlining pedestrian safety worries on a Bo'ness road.

Beth Pullen spoke to councillor Ann Ritchie regarding the issue of fast traffic after her cat was run over during the summer.ADNFCR-2754-ID-801229372-ADNFCR
