New welcome signs to be introduced to Scottish Borders

Visitors to the Scottish Borders will be welcomed to the area by new signs after approval was given by the local council.

The existing notices are nearly a decade old and it has been proposed for their replacements to boast an image of a mountain biker or mill, providing visitors with an idea of the area's identity, reports the Border Telegraph.

Councillor Stuart Bell, the local authority's executive member for economic development, said: "We currently have a mixture of signs on different access routes to the Borders, some of which look a bit tired. We'd like to give a consistent image of the Borders which shows visitors what the region has to offer."

These plans follow a report by Kent Online, which revealed that the cost of new signage in Surrey has been questioned by Swale councillor Steve Worall, who is now seeking more details about the expenses.ADNFCR-2754-ID-801473367-ADNFCR
