Burnham-on-Sea's jetty now benefits from an audible warning system as officials aim to boost safety in the area.

Burnham-on-Sea.com has reported that large sound speakers have been fitted on the lifeguard's building in a bid to improve communication and help anyone struggling on the beach.

Speaking to the website, Sedgemoor District Council's Bill Smith said: "The system will help the lifeguards to more quickly communicate with people on the beach and jetty.

"It's part of several changes, including the introduction of new beach lifeguards."

Along with these measures, new safety signs have been put up on the jetty building in an effort to make people aware of the dangers of the area.

Beaches can be an extremely dangerous place if the correct precautions are not taken by individuals.

Parents should also keep an eye on their children at all times, as it is easy for them to slip and injure themselves.ADNFCR-2754-ID-801548653-ADNFCR
