More measures are required for individuals who transport hazardous goods.

The Institution of Occupational Safety and Health's (IOSH) Retail and Distribution Group are hosting an event at Shirley in Birmingham regarding the issue.

Astrid van der Burgt, from the IOSH Retail and Distribution Group, said: "In the retail industry transporting dangerous goods isn’t that common, so many organisations involved in retail don’t have safety professionals in-house who work to specifically reduce risks in this one area."

Mr van der Burgt explained more action and care needs to be taken to ensure workers are kept safe when transporting and handling packages.

He explained that the initiative will target such workers by increasing awareness of the dangers faced by employees delivering and handling these packages.

Over 50 specialists from the retail and distribution industry were expected to attend the company's conference on Tuesday (September 24th), where speakers including representatives from GeoPost UK and The Hazchem Network held discussions.ADNFCR-2754-ID-801642476-ADNFCR
