Merton Council has now signed a pledge to improve cycling safety.

It was one of just three councils to score zero out of five in a recent study carried out by the London Cycling Campaign on lorry safety and cycling, reports This Is Local London.

Additional safety signs and equipment will be introduced to its lorries to boost awareness of cyclists and pedestrians.

Speaking to the news provider, Charlie Lloyd, the LCC’s Heavy Goods Vehicle specialist said: “It has been a long slow process but we are now delighted Merton Council is committed to improving their lorry operations and working towards a safer borough for cyclists.”

Merton became the last London council to work towards meeting the standards of the Safer Lorries, Safer Cycling project.

Bike riders need to ensure they remain focused on the roads at all times while taking notice of any safety signage, especially in the highly busy streets of London.ADNFCR-2754-ID-801626048-ADNFCR
