Many health and safety rules should be common sense for businesses, it has been claimed.

While many people claim that the laws can be overly protective, 99 per cent of them that are implemented are completely sensible, a representative from Bibby Consulting & Support has argued.

Michael Slade, managing director at Bibby Consulting & Support, gave particular advice to companies with office environments.

"In office environments or hotels, you just need to make sure that the carpets are flat and there are no edges of carpets that people can trip on," he said.

Mr Slade also recommended that any wiring on the ground should be appropriately routed in order to avoid accidents.

A recent study from Bibby Consulting & Support discovered that many companies are not aware of the health and safety legislation that they need to comply with.

It also found that a large number of firms do not know the repercussions of non-compliance.ADNFCR-2754-ID-801308034-ADNFCR
