A number of businesses are now unsure about their required health and safety duties, it has been claimed.

Sarah Daniels, chartered practitioner at the RedCat Partnership, believes that the reason why such uncertainty exists among businesses is because guidance is often unclear and not easy to read.

Ms Daniels went on to say that the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) provides good, simple guidance on their site, and it is vital for companies to protect workers.

"If businesses do not take health and safety seriously, the bottom line is [the risk of] incidents, accidents, cases of ill health and unfortunately fatalities to their staff and also to people using the business - like visitors and guests, et cetera [will increase]," she noted.

Her comments follow figures from the HSE, which found that 1.2 million staff are now suffering from a work-related illness, with 115,000 of these being reported under the Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations.ADNFCR-2754-ID-801450214-ADNFCR
