Local groups have been recognised for improving workplace safety, indicating the recognition that may come to firms which install efficient safety signage.

The yearly Alan Butler Awards saw Sheffield Occupational Health and Safety Association collect the Gold Award and Overall Winner honour, while the North Staffs Health and Safety Group and the Wiltshire Occupational Safety and Health Association were among other Gold Award recipients.

Roger Bibbings, occupational safety adviser at the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents and secretary of Safety Groups UK, said: "Group members work tirelessly to help others get to grips in a practical way with the essentials of safety and health management, raising awareness of risks to health as well as safety and signposting."

Elsewhere, the Health and Safety Executive has encouraged farmers to attend the Safety and Health and  Day on February 14th, which aims to improve safety for firms using farm vehicles and machinery.ADNFCR-2754-ID-801284463-ADNFCR
