Labour's Stephen Timms has praised the health and safety industry's commitment to saving lives in the workplace.

Mr Timms praised professionals who were gathered at the IOSH 2013 Conference and Exhibition, warning against reducing regulations and lowering standards in the sector.

“Health and safety is serious business and both employers and employees alike can’t afford to ignore the regulations. The UK has a fantastic health and safety record and we wouldn’t have that without the hard work of the dedicated professionals in IOSH," he explained.

"Countries across the world admire our record.  Professor Löfstedt’s has provided a compelling analysis, and an assessment of the way forward."

Reclaiming health and safety for all: a review of progress one year on was published earlier this month by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) and examines how the government has implemented recommendations by Professor Lofstedt and Lord Young of Graffham.ADNFCR-2754-ID-801547772-ADNFCR
