Kingston jubilee flame described as health and safety risk

A jubilee beacon that was set to be introduced in Kingston town centre will now need to be relocated elsewhere amid health and safety concerns.

Kingston Council asked All Saints Church to place the flame on top of its roof, but the church was not able to oblige because it would have been challenging to insure, according to YourLocalGuardian.co.uk.

Reverend Jonathan Wilkes told the news provider: "Understandably there are lots of safety aspects we must adhere and having what essentially is a live flame on a building with a sloping roof could have been a disaster."

Mr Wilkes added that he was honoured to be asked, but fitting the live flame would have been impossible.

Last month, the Shropshire Star reported that free fire safety checks are to be carried out in Shropshire.

These will focus on elderly and vulnerable residents, with homes set to be surveyed to ensure they have satisfactory smoke alarms.ADNFCR-2754-ID-801365179-ADNFCR
