A school in Killingworth has been recognised by the National Safety Certification Scheme for Schools.

Bailey Green Primary School was given the accreditation - also known as SafetyMARK - after assessors determined that employees demonstrated "first class" levels of safety management, according to the News Guardian.

The award scheme hopes to provide guidance for the education sector and recognise schools that strive to create a safe environment.

News of the honour comes after the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) launched a new hotline to help schools and colleges manage their safety operations.

Speaking to the news provider, Stuart Letley from SafetyMARK, said: "Bailey Green School has a really positive attitude with regard to health and safety and it is clear to see that safety is taken extremely seriously and that it is very well managed."

Mr Letley went on to say that staff at the school have established a "robust health and safety system".ADNFCR-2754-ID-801527100-ADNFCR
