Kenton Theatre trustees have launched a petition to support an application for a new illuminated sign.
The Henley Standard has reported that Ed Simons, chairman of the trustees, hopes to obtain 1,000 signatures to present at a planning committee meeting next Wednesday.
It is hoped that permission will be gained for a 3.7m x 60cm burgundy aluminium sign, which will be placed above a canopy and supported by decorative brackets.
Mr Simons, who lives in Wargrave Road, told the news provider: "If 1,000 people are saying that the council is acting wrongly and they don’t take notice of that then they are not acting on the will of the people."
He urged the council to "wake up" and understand that the sign should be allowed if people want it.
A decorative sign can help a business truly stand out in a town centre and attract new customers
