The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has offered safety guidance for universities and schools.

A new safety initiative was launched on July 29th, which hopes to improve construction work that takes place at schools, universities and student accommodation throughout the summer holidays.

Inspectors from the HSE will visit sites across the north west over the next two weeks, after figures showed that construction workers are almost four times more likely to be killed at work in comparison to the average employee.

Neil Jamieson, HSE principal inspector for construction, said: “There's likely to be lots of work taking place at schools, universities and student accommodation during the summer break but there's a danger lives could be put at risk if firms are rushing to complete work in time for the start of the autumn term.”

Mr Jamieson described safety as the “top priority” for any construction site, adding that it is not worth it to take risks and finish jobs early.ADNFCR-2754-ID-801619615-ADNFCR
