Health and safety warning over pesticide storage

1st May 2012 | Health and Safety Signs

A warning has been put out by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) and Natural England about the storage of pesticides.

It comes after Andrew Bray, a pest controller, was prosecuted and fined over £1,000 for keeping the substance in an unlocked garden shed.

Workers have been reminded of the importance of storing pesticides safely, while health and safety signs could be used to alert others of their presence and the dangers that they pose.

Elaine Close, from the chemicals regulation directorate at HSE, said: "Pesticides are needed to control pests and weeds, but they can also be highly dangerous to people and the environment if used or stored incorrectly. That is why there are strict controls in place over their sale, storage and use."

She added that everyone who is involved with pesticides needs to ensure that they are used safely and effectively as well as being stored correctly.ADNFCR-2754-ID-801353575-ADNFCR
