Health and safety misuse panel announced
Posted by Jason Nicholls
The Myth Busters Challenge Panel has been announced in a bid to explore misuse of health and safety regulations.
The group will be chaired by the Health and Safety Executive boss Judith Hackitt, who will investigate "ridiculous" decisions and look into reversing them when necessary.
Among the decisions that the panel will challenge include office workers being banned from putting up decorations.
Employment minister Chris Grayling said: "We want people who are told they cannot put up bunting or they cannot play conkers to know that there is no basis in law for such rulings."
Mr Grayling underlined that common sense is the key to successful health and safety measures.
The panel's inception comes after Jane White, research and information services manager at the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health highlighted that businesses' health and safety actions must always be proportional to individual situations.
She also noted that spring and summer can bring on the risk of dehydration for many people.
