GMB urges for tower crane regulations to be strengthened

Campaigners have staged a protest in a bid to stop the Health and Safety Executive from scrapping tower crane regulations.

The plans have been supported by GMB, with the protestors recently staging a demonstration outside of the Department for Work and Pension in a bid to prevent the regulations from being removed.

GMB national health and safety officer John McClean said: "The public are as at risk as the workers on a building site when one of these giants falls down or loses its load. The crane register and the regulations must remain."

Mr McClean added that the regulations were only enforced in 2010, meaning there has not been enough time to review the impact they had on public safety.

It is important that companies adhere to health and safety laws when working with cranes, while safety signs should be introduced if the work is being carried out in a public area.ADNFCR-2754-ID-801400101-ADNFCR
