Farmers attend health and safety awareness days

Farmers looking to improve the health and safety standards on their land have been flocking to a host of events around the country.

A new programme of safety and health awareness days (SHADs) saw the first five being over-subscribed and there are a further 22 planned across Britain during the rest of this year and into 2013.

Last year, 99 per cent of farmers surveyed said that they would recommend the SHADs to others in the industry.

Graeme Walker, head of agriculture at the Health and Safety Executive, added: "Health and safety on farms doesn't just happen it needs to be managed. SHADs are about encouraging farmers to think and plan around the risks. The feedback from these events has got more and more positive year on year."

At the events practical demonstrations will take place covering the everyday hazards which are faced by farmers, including how they can be minimised through the use of health and safety signage.ADNFCR-2754-ID-801488404-ADNFCR
