Drivers warned not to ignore flood warning signs

Kent police have had to warn drivers not to ignore road closure signs, or any other material meant to help road users avoid flooding. This comes after three drivers were trapped on the roof of a car due to high water levels.
The drivers had ignored warning signs just outside Hawkhurst, in Kent, which told them the road ahead was closed due to flooding. They had to be rescued by fire crews after their car became trapped in rising water.
David Hall, deputy director of highways and transportation at Kent County Council, said: "Please observe the road closures and restrictions; they are there for a good reason. If you ignore them you are not only putting yourself at risk, but the safety of staff dealing with the problems and other local residents.
"You are also hampering the work done to bring water levels back to normal," Mr Hall added.
