Driver fined £2,000 for ignoring road warning signs

10th December 2009 | Warning Signs

A driver has been fined more than £2,000 after being caught driving in the bus lane on 35 separate occasions.

The motorist ignored road warning signs and continually used King's Park in Bournemouth as a through route while roadworks were carried out on another road, the Daily Echo reported.

Bournemouth council has this week revealed that it has issued 3,557 penalty charge notices as a result of the detour.

Tony Williams, executive director for environment and economy at the council, told the newspaper: "It is with regret that motorists are regularly choosing to ignore the clear signage and restrictions at Kings Park and are therefore continuing to receive penalty charge notices."

He added that signage has been placed throughout the diversion, in accordance with the Highway Code.

Earlier this month, representatives at the City of Derry Airport said that warning signs are being employed to good effect to ensure a smooth flow of traffic while building work is carried out at the hub.
