A salon in Driffield has collected the council's top award for health and safety, demonstrating the recognition that companies can gain from introducing measures such as safety signage.

Aquarius has won the Habia and East Riding of Yorkshire Council Platinum award, with staff from the salon visiting a presentation ceremony in Willerby Manor to pick up the accolade, reports the Driffield Times.

Eileen Thompson from Aquarius told the newspaper: "We were starting to think we weren't going to get anything but then we were announced as the winners of the platinum award at the end. We were really pleased."

Ms Thompson believes that the award will help the salon to gain more publicity, which could lead to a boost in business.

It comes after the Community Gateway Association was handed the gold standard award from the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA).

RoSPA took numerous factors into account when delivering the honour, including health and safety management input.ADNFCR-2754-ID-800697705-ADNFCR
