Cyclist spared fine over hidden warning sign

A cyclist in Peterborough who was caught using his bike in an unpermitted area has avoid a fine, after proving that warning signs were covered by fairground rides.

Twenty-three-year old James Vaughan was on his bike in the city centre this July when he was stopped by a police officer and handed a fixed penalty notice of £30. However, the fine was withdrawn at a Peterborough Magistrates Court hearing after Mr Vaughan proved that the signs were hidden, reports PeterboroughToday.co.uk.

Mr Vaughan told the website: "I have even seen people riding along the street in front of police officers, who have done nothing, so I did not know I could not cycle down there. I said that to the police officer when he gave me the fine, but he didn’t do anything."

This news comes after the Lancashire Evening Post reported that Adlington has been given new warning signs.

These have been produced by Chorley Council in an effort to combat antisocial behaviour in the area.ADNFCR-2754-ID-801247179-ADNFCR
