Contractors have called on transport authorities to clarify their plans to decrease the dangers to cyclists from construction vehicles.

The Civil Engineering Contractors Association (Ceca) has embraced plans to boost safety for bike users, telling the New Civil Engineer that the government must work to reduce the frequency of dangerous incidents.

Ceca external affairs director Alasdair Reisner told the news provider: "Too often we read about the deaths of cyclists as a result of avoidable accidents on our roads. It is essential that we as an industry work with the government and other stakeholders to reduce the occurrence of such tragedies."

Mr Reisner explained that the industry needs to have good visibility of changing requirements, but businesses need to be given clear guidance about these.

He advised the government to formulate a timetable for implementation, teaching drivers of heavy goods vehicles how they can protect other road users across the country.ADNFCR-2754-ID-801639474-ADNFCR
