Complacency 'can cause accidents'

19th January 2010 | Health and Safety Signs

Health and safety signs can remind people of the importance of always taking care in the workplace and not becoming complacent.

Farmer Mark Mather, of Haugh Head Farm near Wooler in Northumberland, has pledged his support to the Make the Promise campaign, which urges agricultural workers around the UK to always be alert to hazards in the workplace.

He pointed out that one of the main dangers of farm work is that people carry out the same task every day and begin to ignore the constant dangers, something which health and safety signs would remind them of at all times.

"You are so familiar with the process that you do not take the time to stop and think. A moment's slip or lack of concentration can alter your and your family's life forever. There are no second chances," Mr Mather said.

The Health and Safety Executive, which launched the Make the Promise Campaign, has said that agriculture remains one of the most dangerous sectors to work in, illustrating the need to use health and safety signs.ADNFCR-2754-ID-19564379-ADNFCR
