A campaign for road safety measures at Carrutherstown Primary School looks braced to gain some benefits, after councillors agreed to fund a new vehicle-activated warning sign.

Councillors from Annandale and Eskdale agreed on Wednesday to financially back the sign, which shows the speed of oncoming vehicles near the school, notifying pedestrians of any potential danger, reports the Dumfries & Galloway Standard.

Annandale South councillor Richard Brodie told the newspaper:  "I am delighted that the area committee has agreed to the flashing sign near the school and that some other money is now to be spent there to improve safety."

The new sign marks a small step towards further improvements at all entrances to the village, Mr Brodie noted.

Recently, the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) announced a new seminar that is designed to educate people about the Lofstedt Review.

Entitled Understanding Lofstedt - A Special Briefing, it will commence on Thursday December 15 in Birmingham and thoroughly analyse the review.ADNFCR-2754-ID-801238730-ADNFCR
