Campaigns raising safety signs awareness 'always important'

14th January 2010 | Health and Safety Signs

Campaigns which raise awareness of workplace dangers and the need to use precautions such as safety signs are always important, one expert has said.

Terry Rose, south-west regional director for the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), said that "all too often" he has to investigate deaths and serious injuries which could have been avoided, particularly those occurring in the agriculture industry.

"We see first hand the terrible grief that families face when someone is killed and it is heartbreaking - particularly when farmers keep dying for the same reasons," he said.

Mr Rose pointed out that training is available to educate people about the risks of not taking measures to avert accidents, such as installing safety signs.

Recently, Clive Brookes, agriculture lead for the HSE in the West Midlands, said that providing guidance on where to place safety signs is far more preferable to consoling families who have lost a loved one in a workplace accident.ADNFCR-2754-ID-19556734-ADNFCR
