Calls for road warning signs on Blackfriars Bridge

Members of the London Assembly are calling for new warning signs or alternative measures to be introduced on Blackfriars Bridge.

There are growing concerns over safety on the stretch of road and some assembly members want to see a 20mph limit introduced.

Members Val Shawcross and John Biggs have already laid proposals for a more cycle and pedestrian friendly design before Transport for London, which has so far refused to agree to the limit.

The organisation is reluctant to introduce new safety signage onto the bridge, informing users of the limit.

A debate on the issue had been scheduled at the assembly, but Conservative members walked out of a plenary meeting in what opposition members believe was an attempt to prevent a motion being passed.

Local London Assembly member Mr Biggs said: "Only last week there was another accident on the bridge.

"Conservative members should not play games where the safety of vulnerable Londoners is concerned."ADNFCR-2754-ID-800574523-ADNFCR
