A Buckinghamshire construction firm has been fined after two large properties collapsed in Westminster.

The buildings on Fulham Road were destroyed in January 2011, causing neighbouring properties to sustain significant structural damage, leading to Ethos Construction Solutions being prosecuted by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE).

HSE inspector Andrew Verrall-Withers said: “The development site was a scene of complete devastation following the collapse and had anyone been working at the time there could have been multiple fatalities and serious injuries.

“It is also good fortune that the collapsed building didn't come down in the direction of the busy Fulham Road, which could also have had tragic consequences.”

Mr Verrall-Withers explained that the failings identified at the site were shocking, adding that there were numerous other risks that could have caused death or injury.

He noted that the prosecution should remind directors of construction companies that is unacceptable to assume workers in their care are protected.ADNFCR-2754-ID-801621460-ADNFCR
