Berwick Events Group (BEG) has called for Northumberland County Council to be fair with regard to advertising.

BEG was frustrated to see signs and banners erected around Berwick in the run up to the arrival of the Olympic Torch when it is not allowed to put up signage for the Dickensian market in the same locations, reports the Berwick Advertiser.

BEG chair Yvonne Balfour told the news provider: "We have banners which we could distribute around the town but every time we put them up we get phone calls from the council planning department telling us to take them down!"

Ms Balfour added that the fact that banners are being put up in places where they are not allowed to erect them is an example of "double standards".

Companies who are looking to put up signage should always check with their local authority to see if they can do it legally, as they may otherwise face punishment.ADNFCR-2754-ID-801391049-ADNFCR
