A new project has been launched to offer more health and safety advice to businesses in Bellshill.

North Lanarkshire Council has partnered with groups that include the Health and Safety Executive and the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) in bid to carry out an excellence initiative in the community, reports STV.

The programme will cover Righead Industrial Estate, Strathclyde Business Park and Motherwell Foodpark.

Helen McKenna, convener of the environmental services committee, told the news provider: "Managing health and safety issues is vital for all local companies and there is a lot of information available but it can be difficult for owners to identify what’s relevant for their particular business."

RoSPA's involvement in this scheme comes after it encouraged installers to fit fire safety measures in a number of Fife homes.

Residents in Fife Council's new-build properties are now benefiting from all of the recommendations in RoSPA Scotland's 'Can the home ever be safe?' document.ADNFCR-2754-ID-801446462-ADNFCR
