Accidents can happen if businesses do not take health and safety seriously, one expert has stressed.

Sarah Daniels, chartered practitioner at the RedCat Partnership, believes that the impression that health and safety stops things from happening is wrong, adding that measures should instead focus on finding ways that procedures can take place.

"The consequences are increased incidents, damage to property, staff being less productive but of increase enforcement action. If there is a reportable incident, an inspector may be more likely to take more formal action," Ms Daniels continued.

She underlined that businesses could jeopardise their reputation with customers if a business does not properly invest in health and safety.

Her remarks come after the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) claimed that over-zealous decisions made by "jobsworths" are interfering too much with people's lives.

The HSE believes that there are "blatant examples" of firms using health and safety to refuse service.ADNFCR-2754-ID-801444526-ADNFCR
